Aaron Rodgers is back to the NFL world. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported on Wednesday that the veteran quarterback will in fact sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of the team's mandatory minicamp next week, and he will play for the third team in his NFL career.

It's a one-year deal for Rodgers and the Steelers, and it means the quarterback is now expected to face the Green Bay Packers for the first time.

Rodgers didn't have to play against the Packers during his two years with the New York Jets. Now, though, it will be different. The Packers are slated to face the Steelers on Sunday Night Football in Week 8 at Acrisure Stadium, a special opportunity to reconnect the quarterback and his old franchise.

It will also be an impactful opportunity for Jordan Love, who will face the quarterback he backed up for three years.

"I would love to get the opportunity to play against A-Rod," Love said back in April. "Having a guy that mentored me in the league, was someone I gotta be a backup behind, to be able to get the opportunity to play against him, and be on the other side of him, it would be special, it would be cool. So we'll see, it's up in the air. I have no idea."

Powerful game

Initially, the Packers were expected to face the Steelers in Ireland. However, when rumors started to surface that Rodgers would play in Pittsburgh, the NFL changed its plans. Now, the Minnesota Vikings will go to Europe, while Packers-Steelers will be able to play in a primetime slot.

Aaron Rodgers had an amazing 18-year tenure with the Packers, from 2005 to 2022, including 15 years as a starter. He won the MVP award and was a First-Team All-Pro four times, a Second-Team All-Pro once, made the Pro Bowl ten times, and won Super Bowl XLV — and the game's MVP award too.

Two years ago, the Packers traded Rodgers to the New York Jets for a package that ended up including two second-round picks and a first-round swap.

Aaron Rodgers didn't have as much success as he wanted for the Jets. Now, though, he will try to grab his second Super Bowl ring in Pittsburgh — and the Packers will be on his way.
