SÃO PAULO – Matt LaFleur said earlier this year that he wanted to vomit every time he listened to the “wide receiver one” expression. Well, it looks like he won’t have to answer that question for much longer, at least based on what the Green Bay Packers offense showed in Brazil on Friday night. It’s Jayden Reed, last year’s second-round receiver, the most productive and dynamic piece of the offense in São Paulo.

The combination of a loss and Jordan Love’s scary moment (and nebulous situation) left a sour taste for fans. But the offense scored 29 points, and it happened in large part because of how effective Reed was. After the game, though, the second-year player still wants the offense to improve.

“All the little things matter, like the one drop I had,” Reed mentioned. “You just got to keep working on finding ways to get better. We did a lot of things that we know we can get better at. We just got to attack going forward and work on those things so we can get better as a whole.”

In the second quarter alone, Reed ran for a 33-yard touchdown and scored another one after a 70-yard reception from Jordan Love. He finished the game with four receptions for 138 yards and a touchdown, in addition to the big run. His speed and elusiveness were overwhelming for the Philadelphia Eagles defense for most of the game, and it saved the Packers offense, which wasn’t getting much else, even though it wasn’t enough to get the win.

Nonetheless, Jayden Reed doesn’t see himself as the top receiver. It’s a room full of options, and all can be involved to make the offense operate at a higher level.

“We've got a lot of guys that can make plays,” Reed pointed out. “We just got to keep finding ways to get better at executing our job so we can get everybody involved and we can be a powerful offense.”

The Packers go back to the field in eight days. On Sunday of week 2, Green Bay has its home opener against the Indianapolis Colts at Lambeau Field.
