Bakhtiari to the Jets? Proposed trade is the stupidest deal you'll ever see

The David Bakhtiari situation with the Green Bay Packers is a big question mark. We have explored every possible scenario, which includes a potential trade. A trade is, in fact, a realistic outcome considering where Bakhtiari is in his career and where the Packers are on their roster-building timeline.
But certainly not the trade proposed by Bleacher Report on their offseason trade guide. It's a truly unbelievable proposition.
"Hypothetical Trade We'd Love to See"
- Jets receive: 2024 first-round pick (25th overall), 2024 second-round pick, 2024 third-round pick, 2025 second-round pick, OT David Bakhtiari.
- Packers receive: 2024 first-round pick (10th overall).
Why would the Packers do anything close to that? In this scenario, they would literally pay the Jets to absorb Bakhtiari's contract — which doesn't make any sense, since they could just release him or trade him for a seventh-round pick if they can't find any real suitors.
Even using the Jimmy Johnson chart, which tends to overvalue higher picks, and devaluing one round of the following year, which is not a sound process, the Packers would still send to the Jets more draft capital than they would receive.
Jets package
- David Bakhtiari
- 2024 first-round pick (25th overall) – 720 points
- 2024 second-round pick – 330 points
- 2024 third-round pick – 136 points
- 2025 second-round pick – 145 points (devaluing one round)
Total: 1,331 points + Bakhtiari
Packers package
- 2024 first-round pick (10th overall) – 1,300 points
Obviously, a top 10 draft pick is a valuable asset, but it doesn't make sense to add so much draft capital to move up. If the deal didn't involve Bakhtiari, sure, it would be a decent price to pay — and the extra capital according to the Jimmy Johnson chart is fair considering it's a high first-rounder. But when you include David Bakhtiari in the deal, and he is still playing at a high level when available, it's truly bizarre.
It's still unclear if the Packers will trade David Bakhtiari — and also if general manager Brian Gutekunst would be willing to go through another long, boring trade negotiation with Jets' GM Joe Douglas.
But we can be sure that Gutekunst wouldn't do anything closer to that proposed trade. And I doubt any NFL executive would.
