Packers get an inspiring update that has the potential to reshape key parts of the offense at the right time
Wide receiver Christian Watson is getting back to practice despite his chest/shoulder injury suffered against the Broncos.
When Christian Watson fell on the field in Denver, it looked like a pretty serious injury. Three days later, the wide receiver is getting back at practice for the Green Bay Packers. After an intense week, Watson missed practice on Tuesday but will return on Wednesday as part of his effort to be ready to play on Saturday against the Chicago Bears.
“He’s fighting to play for sure,” head coach Matt LaFleur said. “But ultimately it’s about going through the process and seeing where he’s at, and he’s going to prove it.
Watson is in the process to get back
Watson suffered chest and shoulder injuries on a play that ended up being a Jordan Love interception by Patrick Surtain II — an eventful play that changed the game. It’s still unclear if Watson will play on Sunday, but returning to practice three days ahead of the NFC North matchup is an important step.
“He’s improving, certainly,” LaFleur added. “He’s improving, so we’ll just see how he’s feeling out there.”
The Packers had 23 points against the Denver Broncos at the point of Watson’s injury, but only scored three more through the rest of the game, losing 34-26.
More than Watson’s individual production, the offense clearly functions much better due to his ability to stretch the field — and that affects how opposing defenses face the entire unit.
More Positive news for Packers
On Tuesday, the Packers had nine players listed as DNPs — even though it was an estimation, since the team just ran a walkthrough. Besides Watson, according to LaFleur, fellow wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks and edge defender Lukas Van Ness are expected to get back to practice as well.
It’s still a big challenge for the Packers to overcome injuries, especially Micah Parsons, who’s out for the season, right tackle Zach Tom, and safety Evan Williams. But at least some impactful pieces of the roster are getting ready for a huge divisional game on Saturday night.
