Packers have another reason for concern at running back, but a timely roster move gives them flexibility heading into Week 15
Emanuel Wilson has an illness, so the Packers elevated Pierre Strong Jr. for gameday.
Not only is Josh Jacobs questionable because of a knee injury, but the Green Bay Packers received another concerning update at running back ahead of the Denver Broncos game on Sunday, in Week 15.
Backup Emanuel Wilson was added to the injury report with an illness and is officially listed as questionable to play.
Both Jacobs and Wilson have a shot at playing, but the uncertainty around them motivated the Packers to elevate running back Pierre Strong Jr. from the practice squad for gameday. It’s Strong’s third and final elevation of the regular season. If the Packers need him for another game down the stretch, they will have to promote him to the 53-man roster. However, Strong could be elevated again in the postseason.
Beyond Jacobs and Wilson, the running back room also has Chris Brooks on the active roster. MarShawn Lloyd wasn’t activated from the injury reserve.
NFL practice squad rules
The NFL increased the practice squad size during COVID-19 and kept some of the adjusted rules. Of the 16 players, 10 must have up to two accrued seasons, while the other six have no restrictions. There’s also an extra spot for a player with an International Pathway Program exemption, which Green Bay is using for English defensive tackle Dante Barnett.
Throughout the season, teams can elevate practice squad players for gameday. Each player can be elevated three times for the same team without being a member of the active 53-man roster. After the game, the player reverts to the PS.
