The Aaron Rodgers/Green Bay Packers annual offseason saga is off and running and there's no end in sight.
Well, at least there won't be an "end" for another month or two.
Rodgers joined Pat McAfee on Tuesday for his weekly appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" and he suggested that Green Bay is having "conversations" while noting that he hasn't been part of those discussions.
As always is the case with Rodgers, this will likely drag out for a while.
Green Bay, however, has to start evaluating its roster. They can't just sit and wait on Rodgers to decide something before moving ahead with their offseason plans.
So it shouldn't be a surprise, despite Rodgers' statement, that the Packers' front office is having "conversations". Rodgers is a player, not a member of the front office — those conversations don't need to include him.
As far as what Green Bay's plans might be this offseason?
Well, it's hard to know without knowing what's going to happen with Rodgers.
But that didn't stop ESPN from taking a shot at predicting what the Packers will do this spring.
ESPN predicted this week that several of Rodgers' favorite teammates won't be returning in 2023.
The Packers will refresh their receiver room. Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb and Robert Tonyan are all free agents, and the Packers will let all three leave to save cap space. Yes, even Cobb. Expect rookies and low-cost Kendrick Bourne-types to supplement top receivers Watson and Romeo Doubs.
Those are three of Rodgers' favorite teammates. And if they're not back in 2023, it's hard to see Rodgers being ok with returning. Maybe Rodgers would be alright with just letting one of those three leave Green Bay. But I can't see Rodgers being fine with all three leaving.
We'll see how this transpires over the next couple of weeks/months. It's certainly anyone's guess right now as to how it plays out.
