Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur revealed on Monday that he's spoken with a former assistant about returning next season.

LaFleur told reporters that he's talked with Nathaniel Hackett about returning to Green Bay in 2023.

Hackett, who was recently fired by the Denver Broncos after just one season as the team's head coach, was the Packers' offensive coordinator from 2019 to 2021.

LaFleur also said that he's considered handing the playcalling over to someone else next season. If that's what happens, Hackett would the best choice after working alongside LaFleur for three productive seasons in Green Bay.

For now, Hackett is taking time to decide his next move.

Things didn't go well for Hackett in Denver, but that doesn't mean he can't be an asset for the Packers.

We already know that Aaron Rodgers is a big Hackett fan. In fact, at one point early last year, Rodgers suggested he might follow Hackett if he left Green Bay (Hackett left for Denver right after those comments and Rodgers eventually agreed to a new deal with the Packers).

There's clearly a lot of trust between Hackett, Rodgers, and LaFleur. While there were plenty of factors that contributed to Green Bay missing the playoffs this season, you have to think they would've stood a better chance to reach the postseason if Hackett had been on staff in 2022.
