Over the last week, trade rumors connecting the Green Bay Packers to Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf have heated up.

Nothing appears to be imminent, but the Packers want to add another wide receiver and Seattle may not be able to keep Metcalf (who is expected to soon receive a lucrative contract as his rookie contract expires).

Green Bay, of course, needs another wide receiver after trading Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this offseason.

For some reason, a narrative has emerged in recent days that the Packers can't afford Metcalf because they weren't willing to pay Adams.

This is something that was repeated by former NFL quarterback Chris Simms on Tuesday morning.

Simms is way off base here. The Packers were completely willing to pay Adams. In fact, they were willing to pay Adams more than what the Raiders paid him.

But Adams didn't want to be paid by Green Bay. He was ready to move on from the Packers.

Simms' theory might be true when it comes to the Kansas City Chiefs — they weren't willing to pay Tyreek Hill what he wanted, so they traded him to the Miami Dolphins. But it's not true when it comes to the Packers and Adams.

Green Bay has the resources and willingness to pay a wide receiver top money. I don't know if they're willing to give up what it would take to land Metcalf in a trade — that could definitely be a roadblock that prevents the stud wide receiver from going to the Packers.

The roadblock, however, won't be money, despite what the national media is telling you.
