Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers absolutely needs to rethink his offseason plans.

Rodgers reportedly won't be attending Green Bay's voluntary offseason workouts.

That's a huge mistake by Rodgers.

The future Hall of Fame quarterback has earned the right to miss voluntary offseason workouts. Rodgers is at a point in his career where he's not the guy setting the tone for Green Bay anymore. He's on a different level than anyone else on the roster. Very few athletes get to a place in their career like Rodgers is at right now. The list includes names like Tom Brady, Lebron James, Peyton Manning (before he retired), and a few others.

But Rodgers should still be at the Packers' voluntary workouts this offseason.

That's because Rodgers badly needs that time with Green Bay's wide receiver group.

If the Packers wouldn't have traded wide receiver Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this offseason, I wouldn't blink an eye at Rodgers' decision to skip voluntary workouts. Rodgers and Adams didn't need a lot of time together in the offseason to get on the right page.

But without Adams in the mix, Rodgers needs to be on the field with his wide receivers as often as possible — especially if the Packers draft a wide receiver.

This isn't about sending a message to the rest of the team. It's not about how Rodgers being absent from offseason activities will be perceived by the national media.

It's simply about the Packers getting better. And it's going to be tough for the wide receiver group to build chemistry with Rodgers without the star quarterback on the field for voluntary workouts.

Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur, for what it's worth, doesn't seem concerned about Rodgers' absence.

"I don’t think it has a huge impact on how (Rodgers) is going to perform," said LaFleur recently (via The Athletic). "He wasn’t part of the offseason last year, and I’d say he went out and played at a high level. I think there’s plenty of opportunity between the time when we actually start training camp to Week 1 to get on the same page with everybody.”

What else is LaFleur supposed to say publicly? As we established, Rodgers has earned the right to skip voluntary workouts. He doesn't need to be forced into attending workouts this offseason — Rodgers should want to be there.

I wouldn't count on that happening, though. Rodgers seems set on working out on his own terms.

If the timing looks off between Rodgers and Green Bay's wide receivers early in the season, just remember it didn't have to be that way. If Rodgers was all-in on winning another Super Bowl with the Packers, he'd be on the field as often as possible with his teammates.
