After weeks of frustration, the Green Bay Packers (3-3) may finally have some to breathe. For their upcoming game against the Washington Commanders (2-4), it will feature a familiar face.
With Carson Wentz dealing with a thumb injury to his throwing hand, and likely headed for injured reserve, it puts QB Taylor Heinicke back at the Command helm.
For those that don't remember the Washington QB, Heinicke played the Packers in 2021 in what was one of his worst passing performances from the season. Resulting in a 24-10 Green Bay victory.
Heinicke was sacked six times while being pressured on 21.3% of his drop backs. He threw for 268 yards a touchdown an interception and two fumbles (one lost).
On the other side of this was his 95 yards rushing on 10 carries. An area that is currently plaguing the defense through six games. This year's Washington running game is averaging around four yards per carry.
This can be the game the Packers use to get back on track. While Wentz is having a bad season, this same Green Bay defense has shown they can not only pressure Heinicke but create turnovers on him as well.
It isn't a forgone conclusion that the Green Bay Packers defense is able to beat Washington no matter who's playing QB. However, familiarity can be a weapon used to the advantage of who had the better initial outcome.
Week seven might be arriving just in time for a team in need of a spark.
