The Green Bay Packers (3-3) are in the midst of a two-game losing streak. Readying themselves for the Washington Commanders and QB Taylor Henicke.
Even with a rookie breakout from WR Romeo Doubs, the Packers passing game has been miniscule. A surprise given how effective it has been for over a decade.
Having allowed 21 sacks (9th) on the season and ranking 13th in total passing offense. Aaron Rodgers has made his pleasure clear with the offense and an upgraded addition might be exactly what they needs.
And it looks like that's what could be in the works. It's still being reported by multiple outlets that the Green Bay Packers are heavily invested in the trade market.
Specifically for Pittsburgh Steelers WR Chase Claypool.
While Claypool is still young (24) and under a rookie contract, the Steelers may be looking to build around their current core.
WR Diontae Johnson was awarded a hefty contract extension in the off-season and rookie first-rounder QB Kenny Pickett has shown a clear connection with fellow rookie, WR George Pickens.
After two productive seasons in Pittsburgh with over 100 targets, he's second in targets behind Johnson. However, he is competing more and more with Pickens, TE Pat Friermuth and RB Najee Harris for targets. With the possibility he could finish with his least productive season of his career so far.
Despite that, he does have 23 catches for 225 yards and a score, with 72 yards after the catch. As well as being one of the best run-blocking WR's in the game. Still a highly productive, sought after play-maker at 6'4" 230-pounds.
The cost the Packers would have to pay is a question, however. As players like Tyreek Hill and Davante Adams both cost more than a first-round pick, other WR's like Jaelen Raegor and Amari Cooper cost a fifth and an additional pick.
With Claypool still under his rookie contract until 2024, anything from a second or third round pick to start makes sense.
The Green Bay Packers have the draft capital from the Adams trade, and are going to get an extra compensatory pick after losing Marquez Valdez-Scantling in free agency.
If Green Bay really wants to fix the passing attack, they will need to bite the bullet and do something they've avoided to this point. Trade a quality pick for a quality play-maker.
