The Green Bay Packers (4-6) finish their five-game losing skid to the Dallas Cowboys (6-3). Despite no Rashan Gary, Eric Stokes, Romeo Doubs or Randall Cobb, the defense was effective and the offense was on fire.
While many have raised eyebrows at the 200+ yard performance on the ground, no one in NFL circles is surprised. The Cowboys have struggled heavily against the run, and the Packers posses one of the best two-headed monsters in the league with RBs Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon.
No the biggest surprise came by way of rookie WR Christian Watson. The rookie came in with health and drop issues, only having 10 catches for 83 yards in six games.
On Sunday, Packers fans finally saw a true glimpse of the second-round draft picks potential. Four catches for 107 yards and three touchdowns on eight targets.
Watson becomes the first Green Bay Packers wide receiver to complete the hat trick (three scores) since Davante Adams back in week 16 of the 2020 season against the Tennessee Titans.
The offense has been waiting for a performance like this. While fellow rookie WR Romeo Doubs has been the team's best outside weapon, he won't be back until sometime in December. Recovering from a high-ankle sprain.
With what looks like a renewed trust from QB Aaron Rodgers, this team win and performance from Watson might be what they need to get back on track.
Now 4-6, the Packers remaining schedule is daunting but manageable. With three games against NFC North opponents and another against the struggling LA Rams.
The hope is that Christian Watson, as well as the running game, isn't just lightning in a bottle. That the offense has the kickstart it needs to get back on track and make the postseason.
There is still plenty of season to go, and this is potentially a great sign of things to come.
