The Green Bay Packers are seemingly preparing themselves for life without their future Hall of Fame quarterback. Aaron Rodgers has yet to officially decide his future, whether it's in Green Bay, elsewhere or in the league at all.
Despite no immediate answer from the horses mouth, speculation is starting to feel as if Rodgers will play in 2023. For another organization.
The Packers are already making their stance clear. If Rodgers wants to come back, they will take him. However, should he ask for a trade, it will only be in the AFC. Not taking offers from within the NFC.
So what would a trade for Rodgers look like? In recent history, established quarterbacks over 30 with high salary cap figures garner a large sum in the trade market.
Most recently, we only need to look at the last two season. With the trades of Matthew Stafford and Russell Wilson.
- Matthew Stafford – First-round draft picks in both 2022 and 2023, a third-round pick in 2021, and QB Jared Goff.
- Russell Wilson – First-round picks in both 2022 and 2023 first-round picks, two second-round picks in 2022 and 2023, a fifth-round pick in 2022, TE Noah Fant, QB Drew Lock and DL Shelby Harris.
The most common names attached to the Packers trade market have been the New York Jets, Las Vegas Raiders and Tennessee Titans. All for obvious reasons.
NY due to the hiring of his former offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, the Raiders having traded for WR Davante Adams just last season and the Titans being in the worst division in football, teamed up with maybe the most dangerous running back in the league, Derrick Henry.
The Green Bay Packers and QB Aaron Rodgers still have time to decide. However, it's dwindling as we approach the NFL Draft.
Good news for the Packers, there will be no shortage of suitors.
