With their most recent win in an overtime thriller versus the New England Patriots, it's become a satisfying revelation for Aaron Rodgers. Both of his rookie wide receivers are becoming focal points in the passing attack.
To start, fourth-round pick Romeo Doubs is the team leader in targets (22), receptions (19), yards (184) and receiving touchdowns (2). Including this score that set a landmark for Rodgers.
Among rookies, Doubs has the highest catching percentage among qualified rookie WRs (87.5%). Including players like Drake London or Garrett Wilson, who are making huge impressions on their respective offenses.
However, Doubs's name continues to grow. Now the other rookie WR, Christian Watson is making his impression felt.
Despite his low target numbers, his usage on the offense is increasing. Including seeing him in an expanded role.
His usage is likely to increase even more. With Sammy Watkins on IR, Watson is the de facto WR4. Doubs, meanwhile, is cemented into the starting trio with Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard.
The Green Bay Packers are in the driver's seat of the NFC North. And with the NFC having a down year, they could end up being the team on top. Primarily due to this offense's expansion.
The loss of DaVante Adams was obviously a killer for Rodgers and the Packers as a whole. However, it looks like it has opened the door for the next two big-time play-makers in Lambeau.
Doubs's hot start and Watson's increased usage are only going to increase their connection with Rodgers, and elevate the offense.
Assuming these trends continue, both rookie are going to finish their first campaigns with respectable numbers. Enough to build on for year two and beyond.
