Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers made some strong comments this week that might have ruffled some feathers in the locker room.

But there was a reasoning behind what Rodgers had to say.

The future Hall of Famer expressed frustration with drops and inconsistencies from Green Bay's young wide receivers.

"The young guys, especially young receivers, we've got to be way more consistent," said Rodgers this week. "A lot of drops, a lot of bad route decisions, running the wrong route. We've got to get better in that area."

"We're going to play our best guys when the season starts," added Rodgers. "And whoever those guys are, those guys are going to get the reps. It's the guys I trust the most and the guys the coaches trust the most. A lot of it is just the simple responsibility in the offense. Way before body positioning and movement and throw, and all that stuff, are you in the right spot at the right time? Are you running the right route?"

"You keep dropping the ball, you're not going to be out there," continued Rodgers. "It's going to be the most reliable guys that are out there. The preparation and the job responsibility is most important. There's going to be physical mistakes, like we've talked about, but if you're going out there and dropping the ball and somebody else behind you is in the right spot all the time and catching the ball, that guy's going to play."

Rodgers has spent a lot of time with Green Bay's young wide receivers over the last several weeks. And he's made their development a priority.

This "outburst" from Rodgers (if it's even fair to call it that) is simply a motivational tactic. He knows these comments will be heard by those young players. And he also knows it's going to motivate them to be better. And if it doesn't, then they probably aren't the wide receivers that Green Bay needs on the roster.

Rodgers has been around a long time. He knows a thing or two about how to get the best out of his wide receivers. And I can assure you that his comments to the media this week were very calculated.

In fact, there's very little Rodgers does that isn't calculated.
