The Green Bay Packers pulled off an upset win over the Kansas City Chiefs at Lambeau Field, improving to 6-6 after starting the season 3-6. The win puts Green Bay in a great position to make the playoffs, and it shows how this young team has developed over the season. Check out how these five players to watch performed on Sunday night.
Jordan Love
Week after week, Jordan Love has been exactly what the Packers hoped and expected him to be. Decisive, creative, accurate, explosive. What he's doing leading such a young group of pass catchers is truly impressive. And the things where he's been good at over the last month are much more sustainable that what he did in the first couple of weeks of the season.
In the first two drives, the Packers scored twice. Love completed 10 of 11 passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns. In the second touchdown, to Christian Watson, he showed great pocket presence.
Love wisefully used hard counts to identify from where the Chiefs would send extra pressure. In the first half, he had an impressive 20.8 completion percentage over expectation, and 0.62 EPA/play.
The explosiveness was clear on a 4th and 1 in the first offensive drive of the second half. He gained 33 yards with a bomb to Romeo Doubs. Right after, Love threw a perfect pass to Christian Watson, who also had a beautiful catch to score the third Packers TD of the night.
AJ Dillon
It was probably the most impactful game from Dillon the entire season, especially in the first half. He finished the game with 4.1 yards per carry. He also had a 14-yard reception, showing his versatility to help the offense in multiple ways. In the fourth quarter, needing to kill the clock, the Packers leaned on Dillon and he did what they needed, getting tough yards.
Dillon is not an explosive runner, and probably will never be, but with the offensive line playing better against a fragile Chiefs run defense, Dillon did more than enough.
Jayden Reed
It was not an explosive game from Reed, but he showed how important he can be to the offense. On the first scrimmage play of the game, he received a quick forward pass and created yards after the reception.
Apparently, he was not feeling 100% from his chest injury, but the Packers hope he gets better for next week, because potentially without Christian Watson, who injured his hamstring in the fourth quarter, Reed’s role will be even bigger.
Rashan Gary
He's been by far the most valuable player of the Packers defense. On Sunday night, Gary had a decisive sack on a third down in the first drive, forcing the Chiefs to kick a field goal. In the first drive of the second half, he forced a holding.
He reached 9.5 sacks this season, and barring something crazy, he will get his first 10-sack season in the NFL.
Darnell Savage
Savage is the Packers best coverage safety, and things went bad when he was not covering Travis Kelce. When he was, the results were mixed — as well as you could expect against a Hall of Fame tight end.
Savage had good coverage on Kelce in the middle of the field in the first drive, forcing an incompletion. In the second drive, though, Kelce was wide open over the middle and Savage had no chance, allowing a big gain in man coverage before making the tackle.
