Jordan Love thinks Packers offense is 'right there' and he couldn't be more wrong

You don't have to be a genius to figure out that the Green Bay Packers offense is struggling in the worst of ways. There are so many problems to where the unit is lucky if it scores a touchdown in the first half, at this point. That's how bad it is.
It doesn't look like improvements are on the horizon, either. We've now seen six straight games of offensive ineptitude and it's all the same thing, week-in and week-out. Penalties, miscommunications, poor play calling, poor execution – whatever problem one can think of, it's probably going to happen whenever Jordan Love and co. are on the field. They are stuck in a major rut with little hope of breaking out.
But, according to Love, those unfathomable changes are actually right around the corner.
"I'm frustrated. Everybody in that locker room is frustrated," Love told reporters after the Week 8 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. "Plain and simple – we're not winning. We're losing games. And it's all games that we should be winning, I think…
"… I feel like we're right there. You know, we're too inconsistent right now, on offense, we're not making plays. We have opportunities and we're just not capitalizing, and that's [on] everybody. But we pretty much just said we're right there. If we make those plays, if the ball is bouncing the other way, and we're making those plays instead of not making those plays – these are totally different games."
It's easy to see why Love is saying this. When the chips are down, you have to try and instill some sense of confidence in your guys and the situation. If Love were to come out and say something akin to they're miles away from figuring things out then it would add another layer to what is already a miserable situation.
But at the same time, the comment comes off as delusional. The Packers aren't "right there", like Love believes. They are indeed miles away from getting things figured out on offense. And like Love said – it's not just one person or a few people. It's everyone on the offense.
That in itself is a major mountain to climb when it comes to fixing things. And its own self-assessment is one that indicates things aren't anywhere close to getting remedied.
"I think the the message for everybody in that locker room was to keep that confidence, you know, at this point it's like, who's gonna step up? Who's gonna make those plays? Who's gonna be able to turn this thing around to where guys can feel that confidence from them and and gain confidence from that," said Love. "And I think everybody's frustrated, but I don't think guys are losing confidence. I think it's just, you know, like I said, 'Where are we gonna go from here?'"
Love isn't backing down or running from the problems, by any means, which is great to see. However, the Packers have a lot more work to do than he thinks and they are running out of time with each passing week.
If they can't get this figured out then the team will be picking in the top-3 of the 2024 NFL Draft for the first time since 1989. Seriously – that's where this is headed.
It'll be November when the first game of Week 9 is played on Thursday Night Football. This is when teams are supposed to be finding their groove and playing their best ball. Unfortunately for the Packers, that isn't the case and it probably won't be anywhere close to that until they have a chance to readjust and restock for the 2024 season.
