The Jordan Love-Christian Watson connection has been on display throughout training camp and it showed up again on Wednesday when the Green Bay Packers hosted the New England Patriots for the first of two joint practices.

Love and the Packers offense started off slow, but he found Watson for a deep touchdown later on during the nearly-two-and-a-half hour practice session:

The Packers got the best of a good Patriots pass defense

I actually talked about this in my earlier post about what to watch for throughout the Packers-Patriots joint practices. The Patriots were one of the best overall pass defenses in 2022, finishing second in defensive DVOA.

The unit was also particularly adept at taking away explosive passing plays. Per Sports Info Solutions, the the Patriots allowed the fifth-lowest completion rate to quarterbacks attempting passes of 20+ air yards (27.8%) and QBs averaged the fifth-worst QB rating when attempting said passes (69.2). In all, the Patriots allowed just 5.7 net yards per pass attempt, which was the eighth-lowest average in 2022.

Love has hit Watson deep several times throughout camp, but the deep ball, overall, had been inconsistent coming into Wednesday's practice. The Packers did have trouble getting things going early, but as with most big plays – just stay patient and the moment will eventually come.
