Latest Jordan Love update is clearly not what the Packers were hoping for
Love has been ruled out because of the concussion he suffered last week.
Jordan Love was on a clear path to play on Saturday against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17, but life comes at you fast in the NFL.
The Green Bay Packers announced on Friday that Love has been ruled out and will be inactive because of the concussion he suffered last weekend against the Chicago Bears.
Jordan Love is not ready yet
The Packers quarterback left the Bears game in the second quarter. He practiced the entire week on a limited basis, an early indication that Love could play.
On Thursday, Love was listed as questionable. However, the concussion protocol is a complicated five-step process, and he won’t be cleared in time to face the Ravens.
And there’s more concerning pieces of news. Linebacker Kristian Welch has been placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury, while guard Aaron Banks and wide receiver Savion Williams have been downgraded to questionable due to an illness.
Malik Willis set to start for Packers vs. Ravens
Backup Malik Willis is expected to start after having a solid performance last week. The problem is that Willis is also questionable with an illness and a shoulder injury he suffered on the final play of regulation against the Bears.
The Packers are expected to elevate quarterback Clayton Tune from the practice squad for gameday to serve as Willis’ backup. A fifth-round pick in 2023, Tune is in his first year in Green Bay after playing two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals.
The silver lining is that the Packers have already clinched a playoff spot. However, Green Bay is still fighting with the Chicago Bears for the NFC North title, and the Packers need to win out to have a shot at it.
Willis started two games for the Packers in 2024, leading the offense to wins over the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans. Now, both teams expect to have their backup quarterbacks on the field. Lamar Jackson is doubtful with a back injury, so Tyler Huntley is projected to start for Baltimore.
