Aaron Rodgers mentioned during his documentary series on Netflix, Enigma, how important to him it was to forge a better relationship with Jordan Love than Brett Favre did with him during the quarterback transitions for the Green Bay Packers over the last two decades.
And, according to Jordan Love himself, the veteran quarterback did a successful job with that plan.
Love, who is in his second season as the starter with the Packers, revealed that they are close after spending three years together in Green Bay's quarterback room.
"We do, we have a great relationship," Love said on the Thanalysis Show. "Obviously, I was in the quarterback room with him. And when you're in that room together, you're there every day for multiple hours a day. So you build a relationship with everybody that's in that room. We have a good relationship."
Jordan Love knows the comparisons are inevitable. Both quarterbacks were late first-round picks when the team had a Hall of Fame quarterback in the final stages of their career. Both spent three seasons as the backup to learn and develop. Both had early individual success and got big contract extensions.
But Love handles that situation with a calmness that is usual for his personality.
"The comparisons, that's always gonna happen," Love mentioned. "The media is always going to compare everybody in the league, want to compare all the situations. I don't focus on that stuff. But me and Aaron definitely got a good relationship."
During the three years Rodgers and Love spent together, there were intense moments between Rodgers and the Packers. The veteran quarterback requested a trade in 2021 and eventually got a big contract extension in 2022, when it felt like Love would never have a chance to start in Green Bay.
However, the Packers traded Rodgers to the New York Jets in 2023, finally giving Love the reins with a bridge deal. After a strong first season, Jordan Love got his big long-term extension, and he is the quarterback of the future in Green Bay.
Talking about the future, though, Rodgers' circumstances are not so clear. After a poor season with the Jets, he is expected to be released, and he will have the option to look for another team or to retire from the league.
