The Green Bay Packers shocked the NFL world earlier this month when they traded star wide receiver Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for draft picks.
At the time, the Packers' decision to trade Adams felt like it came out of nowhere.
But it didn't take long for the full picture to become clear. Adams requested to be traded after his relationship with Green Bay soured.
The Packers were essentially left with no choice but to deal Adams, who received a new contract with the Raiders (which Green Bay was willing to match).

On Sunday, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur commented about the Adams trade while talking with NFL Network's Tom Pelissero at the Annual League Meeting.
"Sometimes you got to make some tough decisions," said LaFleur. "Certainly appreciate everything Davante brought to our team. I mean, he is the best receiver in the National Football League, so that was a tough one for me personally and for our organization."
LaFleur was then asked if he tried to talk Adams out of his desire to be traded.
"Well, there really wasn't anything to talk about," explained LaFleur. "I mean, you're going through a contract negotiation and certainly it was just one of those deals where, like I said, a lot of tough decisions had to be made."
That's a tough spot for LaFleur to be in. There's no doubt he wanted Adams on the roster in 2022, but it was ultimately out of his control.
Green Bay will still be one of the favorites in the NFC in 2022 — thanks to the presence of Aaron Rodgers. But the strength of the Packers' roster certainly took a hit with the loss of Adams.
