The Green Bay Packers had several reasons for concern, but the silver lining is out there. Quarterback Jordan Love is still in the concussion protocol, but he will be able to practice on Tuesday at a limited capacity.

“He’s in the protocol,” head coach Matt LaFleur explained. “He’ll practice per the protocol, so he’ll be limited.”

While he’s not cleared and he has to be by Saturday to play against the Baltimore Ravens, the fact that Love won’t miss any practice time is a great indication about his availability for the final few weeks of the regular season.

Quarterback situation

The Packers are certainly not comfortable, because both Jordan Love (concussion) and Malik Willis (shoulder) will be limited at practice and are not cleared to play yet.

“Well, not necessarily,” LaFleur said when asked if he was calmer than he was 48 hours earlier with his quarterback situation. “We’ve got to see how they progress throughout the course of the week, so by no means are they in the clear.”

The concussion protocol is based on how the player is feeling, and that determines the outcome on whether he will be active or not. Last week, for example, tight end Josh Whyle missed the three practices ahead of the Chicago Bears game and was ruled out for the game on Thursday. Now, Whyle will also return to practice on a limited basis.

The fact that Love is already available to practice, even if it’s limited, four days ahead of the next game is a positive indication — albeit not definitive about his game status.

Jordan Love took a hit to the head during the second quarter of the Bears game and was later ruled out with a concussion. On Sunday, LaFleur had already said that Love was feeling much better. But with the protocol, the franchise and the player have to respect the five-step process.
