Matt LaFleur makes honest assessment of Jordan Love and what he can become for the Packers
Head coach and quarterback have a strong professional relationship, and that’s the driving force of the offense.
The external perception might be different — and some will inevitably question how much Matt LaFleur trusts Jordan Love based on the running volume on the Green Bay Packers’ offense. But LaFleur himself wants to make sure that people know how he feels about the franchise quarterback.
At the Annual League Meeting in Phoenix, the head coach mentioned to NFL Network how much Love has grown and discussed what he can still become for the Packers.
“Many teams in this league are only as good as your guy pulling the trigger,” LaFleur explained. “So we feel like we’re very fortunate to have one of those guys that I think the sky’s the limit for him.”
Strong relationship
Jordan Love himself has already talked about how happy he is to work with LaFleur. The coach and offensive play-caller said that the feeling is mutual, building a real partnership to make Green Bay’s offense as effective and efficient as it can possibly be.
“We trust each other quite a bit,” LaFleur added. “I would say our relationship’s really strong. It’s been cool to watch his evolution, not only as a player but as a man. From the time we drafted him to where he is now, and he’s about to be a dad here really, really soon in a couple weeks. But he’s really developed into a really good leader for us.”
Jordan Love had a career year in 2025 in terms of efficiency — and his playoff performance against the Chicago Bears is proof of how well he’s performed despite imperfect circumstances.
LaFleur said that familiarity will help the offense keep afloat despite some personnel losses — like wide receiver Romeo Doubs and left tackle Rasheed Walker, who left in free agency. But Love is the ultimate difference-maker for the team, and his continued ascension is what can finally put the team over the top in the next few seasons.
