Matt LaFleur offers insight into a potential timeline for a decision on his future with the Packers
Head coach is now on the hot seat.
Matt LaFleur briefly talked to Green Bay Packers CEO and president Ed Policy during the flight back from Chicago. For now, he’s still the head coach of the team, but after a disappointing 31-27 playoff loss to the Bears, things are up in the air.
LaFleur explained that his focus at the moment is on watching tape, understanding what went wrong, and starting the plan to correct those mistakes. But there will soon be a meeting with the Packers’ leadership to determine his future.
“That’s not the focus right now. We’re fresh off this loss. My sole focus is on our players, our team, and just trying to find ways to get better,” LaFleur said on Sunday. “There’s going to be a time when we’re going to get together either later tonight [Sunday] or tomorrow [Monday] sometime.”
By that point, a decision about his future should emerge.
Tough situation
After seven years with the Packers, and mostly recognized as one of the top head coaches in football, LaFleur has had to talk about his job security for the first time throughout the 2025 season. However, he doesn’t seem inclined to make that publicly.
“We all know what type of business this is, and the focus for me was, at least today, to take a look at the tape and try to figure out why and what went wrong,” LaFleur explained. “That’s where all my focus has lied, and then in that process you start thinking about what are the things that we need to do to get better. That’s just where I’ve put all my mental energy.”
Despite all the recent criticism in Green Bay, and potential interest from other teams, Matt LaFleur still wants to be in Green Bay.
“Of course. I love this place. I love the people,” LaFleur added. “I love our players, the locker room, everybody in our organization. This is a unique place. The community’s been outstanding. I grew up in the Midwest, and it’s got the same type of vibe that I grew up in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. This is a unique place. It’s a special place. My kids love it here. My family loves it here.”
It’s decision time for Ed Policy, and the implications either way will be massive for the future of the organization.
