It certainly feels like Christian Watson's 2024 season is over. After missing the Minnesota Vikings game with a knee injury, he returned to the lineup on Sunday against the Chicago Bears, but was carted off the field with a new knee injury during the 24-22 loss.
It was an ugly, non-contact injury. The Packers ruled Watson out minutes later, right after halftime.
"I'm not super confident about that right now," head coach Matt LaFleur said.
LaFleur admitted that the decision to play Watson in this game had a lot to do with Romeo Doubs being inactive due to an illness.
Without Doubs, the Packers would have had only Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Bo Melton, and Malik Heath at wide receiver. Therefore, the Packers feel a bigger need for Watson to return.
It was an unfortunate turn of events, and it might cost Watson a playoff run.
Christian Watson finished his third season with 29 catches for 620 yards and two touchdowns. The timing of the injury will be especially troubling because Watson will be eligible for a contract extension on Monday.
