Matt LaFleur offers heartbreaking update on Tucker Kraft after knee injury that makes Packers’ latest loss feel worse
Tight end Tucker Kraft left the Panthers game with a knee injury, and it sounds like a serious one.
The Green Bay Packers lost to the Carolina Panthers, 16-13, on Sunday, in what was probably their worst performance of the season so far, especially because it was at Lambeau Field. But nothing was worse than tight end Tucker Kraft leaving the game with a knee injury.
After the game, head coach Matt LaFleur indicated that it seems like a serious injury.
“Yeah, it doesn’t look good,” LaFleur revealed.
Tucker Kraft suffered a serious knee injury
Kraft suffered a blow to his knee and immediately left the game. He went to the medical tent and was carted off to the locker room. It’s not clear what the injury is, but Ian Rapoport reported that the fear is for an ACL injury.
LaFleur indicated the offense will have to operate without him.
“It’s going to be tough,” LaFleur added. “But it’s football and the other guys are going to have to step up.”
Right now, beyond Kraft, the Packers only have two tight ends on the 53-man roster — John FitzPatrick and Luke Musgrave.
While FitzPatrick is a better blocker and special teamer, Musgrave can still be an effective part of the passing offense. Against the Panthers, Musgrave had three catches for 34 yards after Kraft got hurt.
So far this season, Kraft has had 32 receptions for 489 yards and six touchdowns. Up to this point, he is the most reliable and productive receiving option on the team.
Last week, the Packers cut tight end Ben Sims, who ended up being claimed on waivers by the Minnesota Vikings. Without him, the Packers’ third tight end is now Josh Whyle, who signed to the practice squad in August after spending the first two seasons of his career with the Tennessee Titans.
Rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden also left the game with a shoulder injury. For an offense that has handled the absences of Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks, it’s getting harder and harder to be productive.
