The loss to the Detroit Lions basically sealed what will happen with the Green Bay Packers in 2024. The team is out of the race for the NFC North title, but it's still really close to a wild card spot — unless they lose out, which is extremely unlikely.

So the next four games will mostly decide which seed the Packers will occupy and how hot the team will be closer to the postseason.

Before that, thought, a necessary breath.

The Packers will have 10 days between the loss to the Detroit Lions last Thursday and the Seattle Seahawks game on Sunday Night Football next weekend. After playing three games in 11 days against the San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins, and Lions, the roster needed a break.

Injuries

This is especially true because the Packers have handled several injuries, particularly in the secondary. Cornerbacks Jaire Alexander and Corey Ballentine have knee injuries, and rookie safeties Javon Bullard (ankle) and Evan Williams (concussion) got hurt on Thursday.

Wide receiver Romeo Doubs will probably get back from his concussion. And there will be three players eligible to return from IR on offense: tight end Luke Musgrave and guard Jordan Morgan can return as soon as this week, while running back MarShawn Lloyd can get back next week — even though it's unclear at this point when exactly they will be healthy enough.

"I definitely think these three added days that we get will be huge for guys to be able to recover, get their bodies back," quarterback Jordan Love said. "Obviously, it was a lot of games in a short period of time that we've played in the last couple of weeks. A couple of guys got banged up, so it's gonna be huge to be able to get our bodies back, almost like a mini-bye before we finish the season off."

What's ahead

Over the next two weeks, the Packers will have two prime-time games against interdivision, but intraconference opponents in the Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints. Then, the team finishes off the regular season with NFC North games with the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears.

While there's a feeling of wanting to face the Lions again after how the Packers lost on Thursday, head coach Matt LaFleur knows that perception is counterproductive.

"That's a long way, and if we don't look at what we have right in front of us, then we're doing ourselves a disservice," the coach said. "You gotta keep your eyes down and just continue to work and grind and get better, stay together. All these games from here on out, they're gonna come down to situations like these. I do think we have a really good football team, we're gonna get everybody's best shot, just like we're gonna give our best shot. It's just a few plays here and there that separate these types of games."
