Pro Football Focus made a trade suggestion this week for the Green Bay Packers that would be a perfect move for the franchise.
PFF's Brad Spielberger suggested that Green Bay trade backup quarterback Jordan Love to the Washington Commanders for a 2023 second-round pick and a 2023 fifth-round pick.
It has already been rumored that Love may request a trade if Rodgers returns for 2023, and it makes sense in a pivotal offseason where Love has a fully guaranteed fifth-year option for 2024 valued around $20 million that must be exercised or declined — whether that’s by the Packers or another club.
Washington has once again played its way out of a top pick but still has nothing but question marks at the most important position in all of sports. The Commanders may be hesitant to once again trade Day 2 draft capital for a quarterback after the Carson Wentz move flopped, but Love is in a very different situation. They can’t take this roster into the 2023 season with Taylor Heinicke the planned starter under center, with his 48.6 passing grade through Week 15 ranking 48th out of 50 quarterbacks with at least 25 passing attempts on the year.

It seems likely at this point that Love will request a trade. Aaron Rodgers isn't retiring and passing up nearly $60 million next season. He'll almost certainly return as the Packers' starting quarterback in 2023.
Love will be entering his fourth season in the NFL next fall. He wants a shot to start so he can prove that he's worthy of a rich second contract. If a team like Washington is willing to send a couple of draft picks to Green Bay for Love, then the Packers should jump at it.
Ultimately, I'd be surprised if Love is on the Packers' roster next season. The only question is how much can Green Bay get in return for the former Utah State quarterback?
I have a feeling we'll know the answer to that question sometime next March.
