For the first time since the 2004 season, Aaron Rodgers won't be listed on the Green Bay Packers' depth chart this fall.
Rodgers will be taking snaps for the New York Jets while Jordan Love is expected to be Green Bay's starting quarterback in 2023.
Love was selected by the Packers in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
While the Packers have high hopes for Love, it has to be concerning for fans how little experience there is in Green Bay's quarterback room.
Behind Love are Sean Clifford, a fifth-round pick in last month's draft, and Danny Etling, a former seventh-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft that's spent most of his career in the NFL on various practice squads.
The Packers could use a veteran backup to provide some insurance while also potentially serving as a mentor for Love.
That's part of the reason why CBS Sports think the Packers are a great fit for free agent quarterback Carson Wentz.
From CBS Sports: Lost in Green Bay's transition from Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love is the fact the Packers have yet to add a single experienced backup for their new quarterback. Wentz may be mercurial, but he's a battle-tested veteran in contrast to current reserves Sean Clifford and Danny Etling. He'd also be closer to his Midwestern roots.
Wentz, a Pro Bowler in 2017, is only 30 years old, but it appears he's fallen out of favor as a starting option in the NFL. If the Packers signed Wentz, Green Bay would instantly have one of the best backup quarterbacks in the NFL.
There's no doubt that Wentz would love to get another chance to start in the NFL. But for now, his best hope is likely a backup role. And he might see an opportunity in Green Bay to start in the event that Love struggles. It could be a win-win for both sides.
