There was a report from Pro Football Network last week that said the Green Bay Packers are showing interest in Green Bay Packers wide receiver DK Metcalf.
Metcalf will be an unrestricted free agent after the 2022 season and he's looking for a big payday.
Seattle seemingly wants to keep Metcalf, but with wide receiver Tyler Lockett under contract through the 2025 season, the Seahawks might decide to trade Metcalf instead of handing him a rich contract extension
The Seahawks are publicly saying they plan to keep Metcalf, but front office executives across the league believe Seattle would trade the star wide receiver for "the right price".
I think this is the perfect time for the Packers to strike. Green Bay absolutely needs to replace Davante Adams. The Packers only have so many chances to win a Super Bowl with Aaron Rodgers left. Landing Metcalf in a deal with Seattle could put Green Bay in the driver's seat in the NFC.
So what would it take to acquire Metcalf?
That's hard to say for sure. The Las Vegas Raiders gave a first-round pick and a second-round pick to land Adams from Green Bay.
I think the Packers could offer one of their first-round picks in 2022 and a later-round pick to Seattle. That should be enough to get a deal done.
Green Bay has to find wide receiver help. And trading a first-round pick for Metcalf is more of a sure thing than drafting a wide receiver in the first round and hoping it works out.
Metcalf won't be cheap, but the Packers were already willing to pay Adams. If Green Bay wants to reach the Super Bowl this season, this is a move they need to make.
