It has to be special, and it will be. If Aaron Rodgers decides to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers after all, he will be in line to finally face the Green Bay Packers for the first time in his career, and the NFL smartly took advantage of this opportunity.

The Packers at Steelers matchup in Week 8 was predictably scheduled for Sunday Night Football, on NBC. The game will be played at Acrisure Stadium on Oct. 26, at 7:15 p.m. CT.

Logistics operation

Initially, this game was projected to happen in Dublin, Ireland. However, it was too big a potential to appear in a morning window in the United States. Therefore, the Steelers decided to protect it, and will actually face the Minnesota Vikings in Europe.

That move freed up the pathway for the Steelers-Packers matchup to be placed in its deserved primetime slot.

The veteran quarterback visited Pittsburgh a few weeks ago and had a private workout with wide receiver DK Metcalf, so the indications are clear. Nothing has been agreed to or signed at this point, but there's a good chance Rodgers will play for the Steelers.

Right now, there are only two realistic options for Aaron Rodgers to start at quarterback in 2025. Beyond the Steelers, the only other alternative is the New Orleans Saints, who are projected to start rookie second-round pick Tyler Shough after Derek Carr’s abrupt retirement.

That would be a special moment for Rodgers and for Packers fans. Meanwhile, the Steelers would have a big game at home, while transfering a lower-profile matchup to Europe.

Now, it's just a matter of what Aaron Rodgers will decide for his career and for his life.

Going back in time

Sixteen years ago, the Packers had to handle similar emotions when Brett Favre faced the Packers. That was slightly more aggressive, though, because Favre was with the Vikings.

Favre and Minnesota won their first two matchups against the Packers in 2009, but Green Bay and Aaron Rodgers punched back with two wins in 2010, the same year they won their most recent Super Bowl championship.

Now, it would possibly be an Aaron Rodgers vs. Jordan Love matchup, and the NFL couldn’t be more excited with this possibility.

Curiously, Rodgers' only Super Bowl title came exactly against the Steelers 15 years ago. The quarterback spent the past two years with the New York Jets, but didn't have the chance to face his old team.
