Immediately after the Green Bay Packers' 2022 season ended via a loss to the Detroit Lions, speculation about Aaron Rogers' future with the franchise started.
Actually, the speculation started long before the season ended, but it got real after the loss to Detroit.
Rodgers could choose to retire (unlikely because of the money he's owed), he could be released by the Packers (very unlikely because of the dead cap hit that move would carry), he could return, or he could be traded.
Of those options, I felt like Rodgers returning in 2023 would be the most likely scenario.
But a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter on Sunday has completely changed everything.
There have been rumblings over the last week that a Rodgers trade is a very real possibility.
The report from Schefter, however, makes that possibility feel even more real.
Schefter reported that league sources are convinced that Green Bay is ready to move on from Rodgers.
A scenario that once seemed unthinkable, a Rodgers trade could be driven by financial reasons, the state of the Packers franchise and ultimately the feelings of both the team and the star quarterback.
League sources are convinced that the franchise prefers to move on from Rodgers, just as it once did with Brett Favre. Those sources also believe that Rodgers is well aware of the Packers' feelings on the situation.

There are a lot of moving parts that would come along with trading Rodgers.
Rodgers has to agree to be traded (he can threaten to retire). Then there's the dead cap hit that Green Bay would take, the cap hit the new team would take, plus there has to be an agreement on compensation. It's all possible, but it won't be a simple deal if it happens.
I still lean toward Rodgers returning to Green Bay in 2023, but it's very up in the air after this latest report.
