The Green Bay Packers received two positive pieces of news on Friday regarding their running back position. Starter Aaron Jones didn't receive any injury designation, which means he is going to be available to face the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
Last week, he came back to play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but was still listed as questionable until gameday because of an MCL sprain.
The running back situation might get even better. Asked about AJ Dillon, who missed last week's game because of a broken thumb, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur sounded optimistic.
"I feel good where AJ's at", LaFleur said.
The Packers have played 14 games this season, but Jones and Dillon played together in only seven of them — Jones missed six games because of hamstring and knee injuries, and Dillon didn't play last week.
Another running back coming back from injury is Emanuel Wilson. He is still on injured reserve because of a shoulder issue. The rookie was designated to return and practiced throughout the week, but he isn't expected to play — his official designation for Sunday is doubtful.
Defensive issues
After posting on social media that he wouldn't play through injury anymore, linebacker De'Vondre Campbell didn't practice the entire week and is out against the Panthers because of a neck injury. Safety Darnell Savage (shoulder) won't play either, missing his second game in a row.
Cornerback Jaire Alexander (shoulder) was limited at practice the entire week, as he has been for a month, and is listed as questionable. The All-Pro player missed the last six games.
Safety Rudy Ford (back), cornerback Robert Rochell (neck), and defensive tackle TJ Slaton (knee/foot) are all questionable to play.
Offense
Besides Dillon, officially listed as questionable, some other Packers offensive players have injury designations. Tight end Luke Musgrave, designated to return from IR on Thursday, is not ready yet and has been ruled out. There's an expectation that he has a shot at playing against the Minnesota Vikings in week 17.
Wide receiver Christian Watson (hamstring), running back Emanuel Wilson (shoulder), and tackle Luke Tenuta are all doubtful — a strong indication that they won't be available on Sunday.
Jayden Reed didn't participate in practice the entire week because of toe and chest injuries, while fellow rookie receiver Dontayvion Wicks was limited with an ankle issue. Both have been listed as questionable to play.
Who's available
These players have been taken off the injury report and will play on Sunday: edge Kingsley Enagbare (toe), guard Elgton Jenkins (shoulder), running back Aaron Jones (knee/finger), tackle Caleb Jones (foot/illness), safety Jonathan Owens (knee), linebacker Quay Walker (shoulder).
