Aaron Jones has been crucial to the Packers' success in recent years. Due to this, no one would have been upset if Jones had decided to stick with his current contract, where he was set to make $16 million.

However, right before free agency began, Jones agreed on a reworked contract to reduce his 2023 salary to $11 million.

In a recent interview with Cody Krupp, Jones talks about his thought processes behind that decision:

"This is home for me,"… "Those guys in the locker room, those are my brothers. The people upstairs, they believe in me, and they believed in me since I've gotten here."

That is a very strong statement by Jones, and it shows just how much this organization means to him.

Later in the interview, he talks about some of the financial reasons behind the decision:

"Wouldn't say a pay cut cause I've never made $11 mil in my career so still most have ever made & still has me at second highest paid RB. It matched up w/market, & I didn't want to be greedy."

Jones' cash payout is tied for second in the league out of all running backs, with Alvin Kamara and Dalvin Cook. Only Christian McCaffrey is higher.

In what was a bad market for running backs this offseason, Jones chose stability over the unknown.
