GREEN BAY – Davante Adams is no longer with the Packers. But, when player with Adams' talent and production leaves a Hall of Fame quarterback and a perennial playoff contender under the circumstances in which he left, people are going to talk about it for a while.
Such was the case with Adams on Thursday, as it was his turn to hit the podium during Raiders mandatory minicamp.
Naturally, he was asked about everything that went down with the Packers back in March.
Adams' press conference produced a lot of noteworthy material. However, there was one comment that really stood out.
Adams says Derek Carr and Aaron Rodgers are similar quarterbacks
And he wasn't talking about them having the same hobbies, interests, or whatever.
Adams meant that in regard to being an NFL quarterback. Talent, ability, production – everything. According to Adams, Carr isn't far off from Rodgers.
"As far as talent and ability, it's really similar, if I'm keeping it real," Adams told reporters Thursday. "They throw the ball a lot different. Derek's gonna fire it in there, and you gonna know that thing's coming quick. Aaron's got the ability to tighten that core up and flick that ball to you. So the release is a lot different, but being able to get the ball to you late, if they see you coming out of a break, not many quarterbacks can get it to you before you get to the sideline if you're outside the numbers already.
"Having two guys like that with really strong arms, and understand the game, the mental part of it, is another similarity that they have. They both obsess over it and they know everything that's going on out there."
We could go into all the reasons and ways that Adams' evaluation is simply off, but let's just boil it down to this: Rodgers is coming off back-to-back MVPs and has four in his career. He has a Super Bowl ring with the Packers and is first-ballot Hall of Fame quarterback.
Carr has had a solid career, but he doesn't even have a playoff win on his resumé. And, he is nowhere near as talented as Rodgers, nor does he have the same abilities, overall.
It's simply Adams being a good teammate and a good friend to Carr. Who hasn't had their best buddy's back and hyped them up in life?
But who knows, maybe we'll see a different Carr with Adams at his disposal and a different Rodgers without. But until that happens, there won't be many people not wearing silver and black that agree with Adams.
