There are all kinds of questions surrounding the Green Bay Packers these days. The big one obviously being centered around Aaron Rodgers' future. A lot of that is because of the fallout that will come with whatever decision he ultimately makes.
But there's a line that media members shouldn't cross when it comes to covering a situation such as Rodgers'. And it looks like national reporter Michael Silver did just that on Saturday.
Silver "reported" that Packers All-Pro left tackle David Bakhtiari is getting married on Saturday and then laid out multiple details about Bakhtiari's -and the future Mrs. Bakhtiari's- big day. He then added that Rodgers is likely to tell the Packers what he wants to do in regard to his future before ending the tweet with some spin.
It's a really weird tweet. A mishmash of personal info and speculation with a twist.
Fortunately, Bakhtiari wasn't having any of it.
Just a head's up: Bakhtiari's response certainly falls in the NSFW category.
I wouldn't necessarily call Silver's tweet unethical. However, it went too far. All he had to do was tweet out the fourth sentence about Rodgers likely informing the Packers of his decision on Tuesday. Sure, it would've been chalked up as more speculation on the subject, but it's the offseason. That's the nature of the beast.
Silver attempted to clean things up after Bakhtiari's response. Good for him on that. But it still doesn't wipe the slate clean. At least in my eyes. But, as expected, neither of them care what I think.
Having sources is a privilege and toeing the line with personal information can be a dicey game. But there's no point in what Silver had to say. Just stick with the meat of the "information" and go from there.
But good for Bakhtiari. He had every right to respond to Silver.
And congratulations!
