The Green Bay Packers offense might get a huge boost over the next couple of weeks. On Thursday, the team designated tight end Luke Musgrave to return from injured reserve.

The tight end has missed the last four games after suffering a lacerated kidney against the Los Angeles Chargers.

On Wednesday, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said they would take Musgrave's situation on a day-to-day basis. The team had already designated running back Emanuel Wilson and offensive tackle Luke Tenuta to return.

What does it mean?

The designation to return doesn't mean Luke Musgrave will be activated this season. It opens a 21-day practice window, and the tight end can participate on individual and team activities.

The Packers can activate Musgrave to have him on the field at any point during the next three weeks. If they don't, he goes back on IR and is out for the rest of the season.

Difference maker

It's hard for a rookie tight end to have a big immediate impact, but that's exactly what Luke Musgrave has done. The second-round pick had 33 receptions for 341 yards and a touchdown in 10 games.

He's 22 yards away from Bubba Franks, who holds the record for most receiving yards by a rookie tight end in Packers franchise history.

Extrapolating Musgrave's numbers to a full 17-game season, the tight end would finish the season with 56 receptions for 579 yards and 1.7 touchdowns.
