The Green Bay Packers recently met with an intriguing draft prospect with the potential to instantly upgrade a position of need.
The Packers have seen a mass exodus of offensive weapons in the 2023 offseason. Allen Lazard (Jets), Robert Tonyan (Bears), Randall Cobb (UFA) have all moved on from Green Bay with Aaron Rodgers likely to be traded in the near future.
With plenty of offensive talent departing, the Packers must find players, more specifically pass-catchers, to fill the void. One potential answer to the Packers’ problem could be Virginia WR Dontayvion Wicks.
Green Bay met with Wicks on Wednesday, per Tom Pelissero.
Wicks was a standout in 2021 at Virginia. In his first season as a full-time starter, Wicks registered 57 receptions for a school record 1,203 yards and nine touchdowns.
However, Wick’s production tapered off in 2022. He recorded just 30 receptions for 430 yards and two touchdowns. Shaky quarterback play and a new offensive system could be attributed to the fall off.
Despite a rocky 2022 season, the six-foot-one receiver still possesses certain traits that translate to the next level. His athleticism is off the charts, which he uses to contort his body while making contested catches down the field.
His big play ability would be a welcomed addition to Green Bay’s current offense. The Packers have 10 draft picks, including four ranging in rounds 3-5. If Wicks is available early in Day 3, he has the opportunity to become an asset for Jordan Love in his rookie season.
