Packers face stiff competition for rising offensive assistant as league interest continues to grow behind the scenes
Connor Senger is an intriguing coaching prospect.
The Green Bay Packers have already started their process to find a new quarterbacks coach. Sean Mannion went to the Philadelphia Eagles as an offensive coordinator, so Matt LaFleur is searching for a new piece to the offensive staff.
Recently, the Packers interviewed Connor Senger. He’s a Wisconsin native and worked under Jonathan Gannon, who’s now Green Bay’s defensive coordinator, over the past three years on the Arizona Cardinals.
But there’s plenty of competition for Senger’s services. The rising coach, 30 years old, has also interviewed for the Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills quarterbacks coach jobs, in addition to a position as the Chicago Bears’ non-playcalling offensive coordinator.
Impressive trajectory in the NFL
Connor Senger had several different positions as an offensive assistant at Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Carroll, Wisconsin-Whitewater, and North Dakota State to start his coaching career.
He kicked off his NFL path as a member of the Bill Bidwell Fellowship program on the Cardinals in 2022 and was quickly promoted in every offseason from that point on — offensive quality control coach in 2023, assistant quarterbacks coach in 2024, and passing game specialist in 2025.
With the coaching change in Arizona from Jonathan Gannon to Matt LaFleur’s brother Mike, Senger received the green light to pursue opportunities elsewhere.
The Packers are still in the process of deciding who the next quarterbacks coach will be. A natural internal candidate is Luke Getsy, who’s already been the QBs coach under LaFleur from 2019 to 2021, and now is the senior offensive assistant. However, there’s one fewer internal competitor for Senger — Nathaniel Hackett had been initially hired by the Miami Dolphins as a QBs coach, but ended up getting the Cardinals’ offensive coordinator job.
After having a natural replacement to Tom Clements in Sean Mannion in 2025, the Packers have to go through a full process now — and a rising coach with a different background is a strong competitor.
