The Green Bay Packers are trying to recreate the Carrington Valentine magic. Two years after selecting him in the seventh round, general manager Brian Gutekunt is using another seventh-rounder to take a cornerback. With the 237th pick, the team selected Micah Robinson, from Tulane. Last year, the Packers had also used a seventh-rounder on Kalen King.
The 237th pick had been acquired by the Packers at the NFL trade deadline in October, when they sent edge defender Preston Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Packers had Micah Robinson in for a pre-draft visit on April 10. He is a 5-11, 183-pound cornerback. Despite being light, Robinson is a solid run defender by cornerback standards. In 2024, he allowed a 52.8 passer rating when targeted.
Why the Packers drafted him
Cornerback was probably the most glaring need on the Packers’ roster entering the draft. The team is expected to trade or release Jaire Alexander at some point, and it lost Eric Stokes, Corey Ballentine, and Robert Rochell in free agency. Even with the addition of Nate Hobbs, it was still imperative to add bodies.
“We need numbers right now, because we do have some free agents coming up, so we're gonna need numbers and kind of see where that room goes,” general manager Brian Gutekunst had said after last season. “Obviously, Ja will impact that as well. We'll just see how that goes.”
Both Keisean Nixon and Hobbs are originally slot players, even though both are expected to have some type of role as boundary corners. The other experienced option is Carrington Valentine, a former seventh-round pick entering his third season in the NFL.
Outside of these three, the Packers only had bottom-of-the-roster types, players who finished last season on the practice squad and/or signed future deals with Green Bay earlier this year—Kamal Hadden, Kalen King, Isaiah Dunn, and Kaleb Hayes.
