Packers finally have a definitive answer on impactful piece’s availability to play the Browns in Week 3
Right tackle Zach Tom had officially been listed as questionable to play.
The Green Bay Packers will have a major offensive boost against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. After missing the Washington Commanders game last week due to an oblique injury, right tackle Zach Tom is officially active for Week 3 after being listed as questionable to play on Friday.
Zach Tom is active despite oblique injury
Tom suffered his injury during the regular season opener versus the Detroit Lions and left that game early. This week, he was able to practice throughout the entire preparation on a limited basis, and now he’s healthy enough to play.
Without him last week, the Packers rotated rookie second-round pick Anthony Belton and recently acquired Darian Kinnard at right tackle. Outside of a costly holding penalty from Belton in the first quarter, negating a touchdown, the duo played fairly well.
But having a player like Zach Tom, who finished third in All-Pro votes last year among right tackles and received a four-year, $88 million extension this past offseason, is a significant step for the Packers.
Tucker Kraft will play as well
The Packers had a scary moment on Thursday, with tight end Tucker Kraft suffering a knee injury. After all, though, it was just a knee tweak without any type of structural damage.
On Saturday, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero had already reported that Kraft would play, and now he’s officially active.
It’s unclear if the Packers will be cautious with his snap count, but the offense has two reliable backups in Luke Musgrave and John FitzPatrick.
IR for Reed
Wide receiver Jayden Reed had already been officially ruled out on Friday. Technically, he’s not on the inactive list because he was placed on the injured reserve on Saturday, which means he’s not on the 53-man roster at this point.
Going to IR, Reed will miss at least four games. The third-year receiver is expected to miss between six and eight weeks with a broken collarbone.
This week, for the first time this regular season, the Packers did not elevate anyone from the practice squad for gameday.
