The Green Bay Packers will be without quarterback Jordan Love on Sunday. The team has released the inactive list 90 minutes before kickoff, confirming that the franchise player won't be available because of an MCL injury he suffered in Brazil last week.
But not everything is bad news in Green Bay. Wide receiver Jayden Reed, who had been added to the injury report on Friday with shin and calf issues, is officially active.
Love out
It's the first game Jordan Love misses since he became the full-time starting quarterback for the Packers last season.
There was still hope that Love would play because the Packers listed him as questionable on Friday, instead of out or doubtful. However, he was downgraded on Saturday and has not been medically cleared to play.
Malik Willis will be the starter against the Indianapolis Colts. He was acquired by the Packers ahead of final roster cuts from the Tennessee Titans and is still learning the offense.
Nevertheless, the Packers felt good enough about Willis to keep him as the immediate backup in week 1, without the need to elevate Sean Clifford from the practice squad.
This week, though, Clifford was elevated for gameday since there was a risk Love wouldn't be available. The former fifth-round pick will serve as Malik Willis' backup.
According to Ian Rapoport, from NFL Network, Jordan Love is eyeing a week 5 return against the Los Angeles Rams. This means he is also expected to miss the games versus the Tennessee Titans and Minnesota Vikings.
Other players
Beyond Jordan Love, wide receiver Jayden Reed (shin/calf) and rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd, who already missed week 1's game with a hamstring injury, were also listed as questionable to play. Both are available.
Cornerback Corey Ballentine (oblique), defensive tackle Kenny Clark (toe), linebacker Edgerrin Cooper (knee), running back Josh Jacobs (back), and linebacker Quay Walker (groin) were taken off the injury report on Friday and are active.
