The Green Bay Packers have announced on Saturday one elevation from practice squad for gameday in Week 8, when the team faces the Jacksonville Jaguars in Florida. It's cornerback Robert Rochell.
This is the last practice squad elevation for Rochell, even though he has already played three games. The veteran was elevated for the games against the Tennessee Titans and Minnesota Vikings in weeks 3 and 4. In week 5 against the Los Angeles Rams, Rochell was promoted to the 53-man roster, so the Packers saved an elevation.
He was waived on the following day and signed back to the practice squad — the move doesn't reset the practice squad elevation limit, but it kept one remaining elevation available.
Robert Rochell has been with the Packers since last year after stints with the Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, and Carolina Panthers. He was a fourth-round pick in 2021.
Why this is telling
Cornerback Corey Ballentine is listed as doubtful because of an ankle injury, and he didn't practice all week.
With Rochell's elevation for gameday, it becomes clear that Ballentine won't be ready to go against the Jaguars.
Practice squad elevations this season:
- FB Andrew Beck (3)
- CB Robert Rochell (3)
- QB Sean Clifford (2)
- CB Kamal Hadden (1)
- RB Ellis Merriweather (1)
