Rookies report to training camp on July 21, so it was imperative the Green Bay Packers get the 2023 draft class signed before Friday's start date.
Rookies without contracts or passed physicals aren't allowed to practice. Once that's completed, they can join their teammates on the field. Sure enough, the Packers locked up all 13 picks after signing both second-round picks, Luke Musgrave and Jayden Reed, on Wednesday night.
Musgrave and Reed add versatility to the Packers offense
The rookie tight end is a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses and so far, Reed has lined up as the Packers slot receiver, replacing the departed Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard.
Both players will benefit the offense in multiple ways. Reed's inside presence allows Christian Watson to play more outside, where he can use his size and speed to stretch the field. Reed also gives LaFleur another option for jet sweeps, end-arounds, etc.
Musgrave can play both inside and out. He can line up on the line scrimmage and he can also detach himself from the formation, which can cause all kinds of issues for opposing defenses. If he and rookie third-rounder Tucker Kraft can get off to a fast start then the Packers offense can certainly surprise some people early-on.
Overall, the news really means the offseason is over. Done with. No more.
