If one wants to see some of the highest tiers of competition in the world, then the perfect place is an NFL training camp.
There's a 100% chance some kind of intense moment pops up and that's exactly what happened on Thursday when Green Bay Packers cornerback Rasul Douglas gave up a touchdown and subsequently proceeded to take his frustrations out on a nearby trash can.
Douglas gave up the narrowest of touchdowns to Christian Watson and that was the catalyst behind his frustrations and annihilation of the unfortunate receptacle. Overall, it was a harmless moment, but it was clear Douglas didn't like how things went down.
"I mean, Sul's that's kind of guy – he's super competitive," Watson told reporters Thursday. "So, you know, I think when he thinks he has a chance to make a big play, he's gonna take it. And he knows sometimes it doesn't pan out his way, but I know he's gonna be ready for the next opportunity. And, you know, hopefully, we get the same outcome."
The scene speaks to Douglas' competitiveness: he wants to be great from the start. And there's a good chance his actions and attitude rub off on the team in a positive manner. I mean, the pads haven't even come on yet and people are beating up trash cans.
That's how you set the tone.
After hearing Watson break down what happened, it's easy to see why Douglas was hot. The dude was literally fingertips away from making a play and as we all know, that minuscule gap oftentimes represents the difference in a win or a loss.
"It was kind of, like, bang-bang. I mean, if it would have been an eighth of a second earlier or eighth of a second later, it probably would have been different," said Watson. "It was a perfect ball, perfect placement by J-Love that and the timing was just perfect. But, ya know, he got a hand on it, but it was just the right time, right? I gotta good grip of it. So, it was good."
The defense has gotten the best of the offense so far in camp, but that's typically what happens in camp, especially when a team is in the middle of replacing a franchise legend like the Packers are doing with Aaron Rodgers.
But Watson definitely got the best of Douglas and co. on this play. It'll be fun to see how the two go at it on Friday.
