Green Bay Packers wide receiver Amari Rodgers was a player viewed as being on the roster bubble during the summer despite the fact that he was drafted in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

The fact he was drafted in the early rounds is likely what saved Rodgers' roster spot.

But it might not be saved for long.

Rodgers is working as Green Bay's punt returner — one of the reasons he stuck on the roster.

And that might be what gets him waived.

Rodgers called for a fair catch on Sunday against the Vikings despite having more than enough green grass for a good return. It's something that Packers special teams coach Rich Bisaccia has coached Rodgers not to do.

Giving up good field position in the NFL is a sin and a surefire way to lose games.

Rodgers already isn't very versatile as a wide receiver — he's mostly used as a slot receiver or on "gadget plays".

If he can't deliver some special teams value, then Green Bay not see the benefit of keeping him on the roster.

I doubt the Packers cut him after week one. But if things don't improve — specifically on punt returns — he could be looking for a new employer.
