The Green Bay Packers haven’t been a major player at this point in the NFL’s free agent period. With the front office’s attention on a potential Aaron Rodgers trade, one national media outlet gave Green Bay a harsh grade for their free agency moves.

Pro Football Focus dished out an unflattering C- grade in free agency to the Packers. It is the lowest mark in the NFC North, but this shouldn’t come as a major surprise to the fanbase.

Heading into the offseason, the Packers were facing plenty of challenges with the salary cap. By parting ways with some key contributors over the last few seasons, Spotrac currently has the Packers with $22.8 million in cap space.

Key Departures: WR Allen Lazard, DL Dean Lowry, DL Jarran Reed, TE Robert Tonyan, LB Ryan Barnes

Green Bay, who could shed some, if not all of Rodgers’ contract in a trade, could make a few splashes down the road. But as of now, the Packers haven’t signed any flashy free agents.

The team did well to re-sign return specialist Keisean Nixon, TE Tyler Davis and EDGE Justin Wilson. New addition LS Matt Orzech was PFF’s the third-highest graded player at his position in 2022, but it’s admittedly difficult to get excited over a new long-snapper.

At the end of the day, the Packers’ C- grade could be considered generous from the folks over at PFF. There remains plenty of time for Green Bay to continue to improve its roster, but it’s going to be difficult to put a plan together until a Rodgers trade materializes.
