Packers reach long-term extension with veteran and make him the third highest-paid player at his position in the NFL
Matthew Orzech is now under contract through 2028.
It was a day full of tough decisions for teams and bad news for players losing their jobs. However, a member of the Green Bay Packers has a big reason to celebrate. Veteran long snapper Matthew Orzech agreed to a three-year extension, getting $4.8 million in total value.
This might not look like a big move for the Packers, but it certainly is for Orzech. He became the third highest-paid long snapper in the NFL with his $1.6 million yearly average.
A 30-year-old player, Matthew Orzech was in the final season of the three-year contract he originally signed with the Packers in 2023. Now, he will be under contract through 2028.
Because the long snapper already had a contract for 2025 and was slated to make $1.17 million, it’s essentially a four-year, $5.97 million deal, $1.49 million on real yearly average.
Who Matthew Orzech
Even though Orzech has been with the Packers since 2023, it’s natural that a long snapper won’t be easily recognizable for fans. However, he brought stability to a position that severely lacked it in Green Bay since the team moved on from Brett Goode, who played on the Packers from 2008 through 2017.
Undrafted in 2019, Matthew Orzech had short stints on the Baltimore Ravens, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, and Tennessee Titans.
He established himself as a starter in 2021 and won the Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams, where he played through 2022. When Orzech hit the open Market, the Packers secured him on a three-year deal—and now, he gets another one.
The guarantees on the deal haven’t been reported yet, but Green Bay usually doesn’t give up any guarantees beyond the first season of a contract. Most likely, Orzech got guarantees in 2025, which was essentially a lock anyway, and the Packers now have three team options for the future.
After last season, general manager Brian Gutekunst highlighted that he feels “very, very good about that group,” talking about the three specialists. Earlier in the offseason, the Packers gave kicker Brandon McManus a three-year, $15.3 million extension, and signed punter Daniel Whelan to his exclusive-rights free agent tender.
