Second-year wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks will likely miss some time, but it's still a relatively positive update. The former fifth-round pick suffered a shoulder injury during the Green Bay Packers win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, and according to Fox Sports’ NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Wicks is considered week-to-week.

According to Schultz, the initial expectation was that Wicks' injury could have been even more serious, but the Packers dodged a bullet.

After a promising rookie season, Dontayvion Wicks has struggled in 2024. Over the first six weeks of the season, he was targeted 31 times, but had only 11 catches for 133 yards. The good is that he had three touchdowns, but the bad is he dropped the ball four times — his drop rate is 26.7% in 2024, after it was 4.9% as a rookie.

Wicks has generated a 68.3 passer rating when targeted, which is by far the worst among the Packers four-man wide receiver rotation — Jayden Reed (148.2), Christian Watson (113.9), and Romeo Doubs (106.8) have been much more efficient.

It’s still unclear if Wicks will be placed on the injured reserve. But if he does, he would only be eligible to return in week 12, when the Packers face the San Francisco 49ers. Wicks would lose games against the Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Detroit Lions and, after the bye week, the Chicago Bears. But as it’s a week-to-week injury, the Packers might feel comfortable keeping Wicks on the active roster for him to play as soon as possible.

Beyond Watson, Reed, and Doubs, the Packers also have wide receivers Bo Melton and Malik Heath on the 53-man roster. Green Bay still has Julian Hicks, Cornelius Johnson, and TJ Luther on the practice squad.
