The Green Bay Packers didn't draft a cornerback until the seventh round, but that doesn't actually change their plans in regards to Jaire Alexander. That situation is all but decided, and by far the most likely scenario is that the former All-Pro cornerback will play elsewhere in 2025.

According to Tom Silverstein from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Packers' plans with Jaire haven't changed after the draft.

"A source familiar with the dealings between the Packers and Alexander said the Packers still were in the market to trade him and were waiting to see if a team might have interest after the draft. There is no plan for the Packers to bring Alexander back after deciding in February they were moving on and then shopping him to teams." — Tom Silverstein.

Jaire Alexander participated in the first week of the Packers' offseason activities, but that happened mostly because he has a $700k workout bonus tied to the voluntary attendance in the offseason program. Green Bay can't block him from participating.

Asked about Alexander's situation after the draft, general manager Brian Gutekunst had another subtle, but telling answer.

"No real updates on that," Gutekunst said. "He's on our roster now, and that’s how we’ll proceed. We’ll figure it out as we go along."

The Packers selected Micah Robinson from Tulane in the seventh round and signed undrafted free agent Tyron Herring. They join a room with Keisean Nixon, Nate Hobbs, Carrington Valentine, Kamal Hadden, Kalen King, Isaiah Dunn, and Kaleb Hayes.

Gutekunst explained that not taking a cornerback earlier was a product of how the draft went.

"I don't really go in there with those kinds of priorities. We build our board and we try to stay true to our evaluations of it. And then we let the board come to us," Gutekunst mentioned. "Every draft class is a little bit different. It wasn't something we were gonna chase."

At this point, the Packers have no reason to trade or release Jaire before June 1. After that date, cap savings in 2025 jump to $17.117 million, with $7.518 million of dead money in 2025 and $9.525 million in 2026.
